Reading Resources

bookcaseI have loved books ever since I learned to read in first grade. Reading was my favorite form of recreation as a child, and still is. I love the feel, smell, and heft of books, and would never be able to trade them for a Kindle. I always have a book I’m listening to on my Ipod when I drive or work out, and a stack of books on my bedside table that awaits me each night. I love when I can climb in bed an hour before I intend to sleep, turn the TV to my favorite New Age music channel, and spend that hour winding down with my latest book. For more about my love affair with books, see my blog posts, Books that Changed My Life and Your Favorite Writing Books.

  • This Reading Resources section of my blog  has three parts: First, is a list:
Memoirs and Family Histories I Recommend to people who are trying to write a personal history or family history. I’ve read all the books on this list and recommend them for their excellent writing.
  • Part 2 includes Writing Books I Recommend that teach more about writing than anything I ever learned as an English major at UCLA. Many of them deal specifically with life story writing.
  • Parts 3 and 4 are mainly for me, Books I’ve Read Recently, and
  • Books I Intend to Read after buying them in moments of weakness.
