Announcements: New Book Award and New Website

by Memoir Mentor on June 9, 2015

I received news recently that my family history, The Parrett Migration, was chosen the best historical biography submitted for the 2015 National Indie Excellence Award. That’s good news indeed, and completely unexpected. That little sticker in the upper right corner of the book is one award committee’s stamp of approval. Just what the doctor ordered. Every writer needs a perk like this now and then to nudge them ever onward.

TPM, award

Here’s What I’ve Been Working On…

Since publishing The Parrett Migration, I’ve taken a break from the big writing project and have been writing small profiles of other ancestors in my family tree. Rather than publish these short stories in a book, I’ve been posting them on a new blog. Stop by and take a look. Sometimes we have just enough information (and energy) for a shorter biographical treatment of our ancestors. Why not pull together what you know and write a small story rather than let all that information languish in a manila folder in your file cabinet? That’s what I thought, anyway.

Hello, I’m from the Parrotts/Parretts that left the Hever, Kent area of England in 1852 and sailed around South America to Portland, OR and arrived in 1853. The family settled on what is now known as Parrett Mtn which is SW of Portand and near Sherwood, OR (where I grew up).

I have an exhaustive history of this line of Parrotts/Parretts done by Stella Bagley of Hever, Kent. I believe she has passed now but I would be happy to send you a Word Doc or PDF File if that’s of interest to you.

I’ll check out your book.

Thanks much…tp

My genealogy group is interested in having you speak to us. We are a small group (but mighty). Our meetings are on the Second Thursday of whatever month you would chose. Please let me know.

I had heard you speak at the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dawn – congratulations! What an honor for your hard work. I’m very happy for you. I’m sorry we’ve been AWOL. I’m planning to attend your class next week for a little bit of inspiration!
