Dawn,

I loved the story--you really do know how to bring a character to life! I want to grow up to be just like you.

I hope I remember all the questions I want to ask my grandmothers who have died when I meet them again.

Thanks for everything.
Rose Marie Morrel

Excellent story, Mom. You have the gift.

I remember visiting Virginia as a child. I couldn't say or think her name without making the word association with the state. I always felt good when we visited her.

I didn't know (or had forgotten) the details of Ethel's death. How awful for Virginia... what must have been going through her mind? Did she fear for her own life? Just terrible.

Hi Dawn
What a beautiful tribute to your Grandmother, Ethel. I wish I could go back in time and talk with my grandmothers, also. There are so many more things I would like to ask. Even now since both my parents passed, my cousin and I reminisced this past summer, that we wish we had been able to ask our parents and grandparents more. I think sometimes, If only, I had asked about .... Now it's too late. We learn so much of who we are from our ancestors' struggles, perseverance and lives.

Thank you for sharing this heart wrenching story and telling your Grandmother, Ethel's story in picture and prose. She would be so proud of you. You brought "her character to life".

Thanks, Bob. I appreciate your kind words. I try to teach my students how to bring their characters to life. It's nice to know that someone thinks I occasionally practice what I preach.
